Frequently asked questions
The licence
Is this a sale of our data?
No. Your company grants a licence to use its records for AI training and keeps ownership.
What does it cost?
Nothing. KetData pays your company, on terms agreed in writing first.
Does a licence affect our equity or debt?
No. A licence carries no equity and no debt. It doesn't touch your share register or create anything to repay.
How long does the licence last?
It has no end date, because a model already trained can't be untrained. That is why the licence limits from the start how the records may be used. Raw copies are deleted once identifying details are removed, with written confirmation. If an AI developer breaks its terms, it must stop any further use of the records. Trained models are not covered by deletion.
Can our records be licensed to more than one developer?
Yes. Your company licenses the records to KetData, and we license them on to more than one AI developer unless one pays for exclusive use. You can still exclude competitors or named uses. Every licence is recorded, so no promise to one developer conflicts with another.
Can it be exclusive?
Yes, if an AI developer pays for exclusive use. By default we license the records to more than one AI developer. Either way, you can exclude competitors or named uses.
What can the AI developer do with the records?
Use the de-identified copy to train, evaluate and develop AI models. It may not publish the records, resell or sublicense them, try to identify anyone in them, or use them to make decisions about named individuals.
Your data
What about personal data?
Identifying details are removed by our specialist de-identification partner before any training, sensitive categories are excluded, and every licence forbids re-identification.
What happens to raw copies?
They are deleted once identifying details are removed, with written confirmation: within 30 days of delivery of the de-identified dataset, with a signed certificate. Backups are overwritten within 90 days.
Who sees our company's name?
Only the people at KetData handling your file. AI developers see a profile without your name, and learn it only after signing a non-disclosure agreement.
Will anyone know the records are ours?
Your company is never named publicly. Before terms are agreed, no one outside KetData sees anything that identifies it. After that, the name is shared only with AI developers who have signed a non-disclosure agreement.
Does KetData see the data?
Raw records are handled only by our specialist de-identification partner, and are deleted once the de-identified copy is made. No AI developer connects to your systems. How we handle your data
Can we stop competitors using our records?
Yes. You can exclude named companies, sectors or uses in the licence.
Do we own these records?
Usually, but not always. Records governed by a client contract, data your customers put into your product, and records already sold with the business are excluded. We check ownership with you before any offer.
The process
How much of our time does it take?
Usually a call, the checklist, and granting read-only access at the end.
Do specialist or in-house systems count?
Yes. They often add value, because few other companies hold similar records.
Do we have to prepare or upload the data ourselves?
No. You provide counts and admin screens; our specialist de-identification partner extracts read-only and removes identifying details.
How is the price set?
By KetData, based on size, history, the mix of tools and what AI developers pay for similar records. Our estimate is a guide only. See how we value records
What if we don't like your offer?
You do not have to accept it.
How long does it take?
Usually four to eight weeks from first call to payment. For a company in administration or liquidation, always before dissolution.
Eligibility
Do we need to be closing down?
KetData pays companies for a licence to their work records. You don't need to be closing down: we work with companies that are trading, winding down or closed.
Which countries do you work with?
Companies anywhere, as long as most records are in English. Prices vary by region, as they do across the market.
Which companies do you work with?
Established companies with years of working records. We are most likely to help if the company usually has around 30 or more office staff, or had 50 or more at its peak if it has closed (smaller companies can qualify if they used eight or more connected tools); has at least two years of records in its tools, and ideally three or more; used five or more work tools; and owns its records, keeping them mostly in English. Software, technology and game studios, engineering, construction and manufacturing are the strongest fit, followed by IT services, cybersecurity, logistics and consulting. We do not currently work with law firms, healthcare providers, consumer finance, HR, recruiting or staffing companies, or marketing agencies.
Does a lender or office-holder need to agree?
Sometimes. If the company is in an insolvency process or has a secured lender, we check who must consent before anything is signed.
